Volunteer

Our volunteers are a truly spectacular bunch and we achieve great things together. We’d love you to join us.

People from all sorts of backgrounds and age groups offer their time, skills, energy and enthusiasm and in return, we provide the opportunity to make a difference to the lives of Londoners experiencing homelessness.

We have plenty of opportunities throughout the year to get stuck into.

Do you have specific skills to share?

We always seek freelancers and volunteers to support our wellbeing and employment programmes, helping deliver sessions and workshops on sport, art, music, gardening, digital skills and careers.

If you’re interested in volunteering with us and have specific skills to share, please contact Joe Mitchell, our Head of Employment & Wellbeing Initiatives, at jmitchell@shp.org.uk or fill out this volunteer expression form.

Why volunteer?

People volunteer with us for many different reasons. Perhaps you have some free time and want to make a difference in your local community? Maybe you’re looking to gain new skills or build your CV? Or perhaps you feel passionately about homelessness and want to do something about it?

Our volunteering opportunities put you at the heart of our work. From one-to-one mentoring to talks, workshops and outdoor activities, volunteers make an invaluable contribution in a wide variety of roles. Many are former clients or people with relevant life experience who want to help others on their recovery journey.

Whatever your background or level of work experience, we can offer productive and rewarding roles that match your talents and interests.

Corporate volunteering

We offer corporate partners the chance to motivate and engage their staff through rewarding volunteering opportunities. This is an excellent way for employees to see our work in action, understand more about homelessness in London and find out how funds raised are spent.

There are many opportunities for individuals or groups to support us, either on a one-off or regular basis, such as:

  • Assisting the fundraising team at events
  • Gardening, repair and DIY work at our hostels, including one-day team-building days
  • Skills-based volunteering – fitness instructors, IT support, training, design, PR and marketing support

We also welcome volunteering enquiries from companies that are not our current supporters or partners. Companies that participate in volunteer days are asked to donate to cover the costs of materials.

For more information, please contact our Corporate Partnerships Lead, Vito Moloney Burke, on 077752 980121 or vmburke@shp.org.uk, or fill out our volunteering form below.

Have you experienced homelessness, substance use, or mental health challenges – and want to use that experience to help others on the same journey? We’d love to hear from you.

Our Peer Mentoring programme connects people with lived experience to Londoners currently facing similar challenges. This relationship creates mutual respect, judgment-free encouragement, and guidance to support other Londoners in their recovery.

For more information, please get in touch with our Peer Mentoring team at peermentoring@shp.org.uk or fill out our volunteering form below.
